H2 Front View (Li model)
The H2 is a prototype ebook platform built around an 800x600,
160ppi, 4 gray level E Ink display. The major system
features are:
- Gumstix SBC with 400MHz Xscale processor running a
modified 2.6.7 Linux kernel
- Metronome 834 or Apollo Display controller board
- Up to 5 button inputs via button board
- Support for Li-ion and alkaline batteries
- External 12V power connection
- Image and file transfer/storage through MMC card
- Full GNU software cross-development toolchain
- Serial, Bluetooth, and USB communications options
E Ink's first active matrix product was a 6 inch diagonal
800x600 display, and is available in the market. This is the
display used in the Sony
Librie (currently available only in Japan). While the
Librie is a great product, it is not in Sony's interest to
make the platform very open and flexible. At E Ink, we wanted
a platform that could be used by our other customers and
partners to prototype applications, gather support for a
program, and potentially do marketing studies. The H2 was
designed for this application.
