After announcing the first public release of Juicebox on a few mailing lists and
websites, there was quite a lot of interest in the acrylic
cases I had made for the project. I thought I would put
together a little tutorial on how I built them.
The foundation of this case construction has its roots in the
various cases I have built over the years to house E Ink
panels for demos. After experimenting with many different case
designs, I have evolved this construction as one that produces
sexy results without a huge amount of labor or cost.
The basic idea of the construction is to form a core that is
as thick as your electronics package, then add a front plate
and a back plate.
Most people don't have access to a lasercutter, but I'm pretty
sure it wouldnt be that expensive to get it done at a
shop. I'll keep an ear out for contacts at suitable places and
post them if I hear of any.
This tutorial will walk through the construction of a case
design for the standalone MP3 version of juicebox.
